Historical Information Copied from Centennial History of NSW 1888 by Barbara Adams
FREDERICK HARNETT DAWSON, of Elmslie was born at Rosebank, Cooma, in 1852 and is the eldest son of William Dawson of Gillamatong, Cooma. He was educated at the Cooma Public School, and on finishing his studies became manager of his Uncle's station at Rose Valley, a position which he held for five years, when he became manager of Tubbutt Station in Gippsland. Eight years later he accepted the management of Rosemeath and Mila stations, the properties of his Uncle, Laurie J. Harnett, sergeant -at -arms, New South Wales Legislative Assembly; and on
resigning this position commenced to deal largely in cattle and other stock. He it was who opened the coast road from Monaro to Gippsland, via Bondi and the coast, along which he took hundreds of cattle to the Gippsland market. Some little time ago Mr. Dawson purchased the Bondi Station, formerly the property of Captain Stephenson, which is now well kept and fully stocked. (ends)
