George Thomas Morrison
Delegate 1858

Genealogy

3rd February 2010
Hi Ian ,

Here is our family history that needs to be inserted into the Eden Monaro pages.
It fits  into  the Morrison history from section Isabella Inglis / Janie Baird /Alexander Thomas Baird Morrison

Alexander Thomas Baird Morrison was born in 1883 Bombala and died 23/10/1962 at Lealholme Private Hospital Ashfield aged 78 . He was cremated and placed in Rookwood Cemetry in Sydney. He had worked  on farms in the area of Delegate.

Alexander married Elsie Cowell daughter of William Holland and Mary Jane Cowell  on 20th December  1906 in Bombala NSW . Elsie was born in 1889 in Queanbeyan. She died on December 2nd 1942 Delegate NSW at the age of 53 and was buried in Delegate Cemetery NSW Grave 336 . They had two children.

M 1. Harry Creswell Morrison was born in 1907 in Craigie near Bombala  NSW  . He died on October 10 1937 in Goulburn NSW at age 30 and was buried on Oct 11 1937 in the Catholic Cemetry Kenmore NSW.

Harry married his 2nd cousin Margaret Bell Mudie daughter of Robert Coulson Maudie and Annie Elizabeth Morrison on May 27th 1931 at St Marys Church Bombala NSW. Margaret was born on October 27th 1909 in Delegate NSW. She died on September 15th 1956 in Yallourn Vic at age 46 and was buried on September 18th 1956 in the Catholic Cemetery Delegate NSW. They had no children

M 2.  Jeffrey Alexander Morrison was born on 20th September 1914 in Delegate. Jeffrey married Elsie Clarice Kent daughter of William James Kent and Janet Adeline Patterson of Harden Murrumburrah. They married at the Presbyterian Church Bridge Road Glebe on the 22nd December 1936. Jeffrey was a fitter and turner and Elsie was a teacher. Elsie was born on 10th July 1914 at Mt Dillion in the Harden Murrumburrah district. Her father was a farmer. Elsie died in  October 1998 in the Port Macquarie Private Hospital at Port Macquarie. She is buried at Innes Gardens Memorial Park Port Macquarie grave no B1131. She had a long distinguished career in teaching, travelled widely, excelled in dressmaking, knitting , gardening, pottery, cooking , and knitting .

Jeffrey went to Sydney to work in Munitions during the war and at Water Supply Depot at Camperdown . He left there in October 1943. . Elsie stayed in Goulburn. The last time she heard from him was Christmas 1942 when he was living at 270 Bridge Rd Forest Lodge in the Glebe area of Sydney. The last time he ever was on an electoral roll was at this address in 1944. Elsie divorced Jeffrey naming an Edith Margaret Hyde as a person he had lived with for many months. Since neither party could be found by her parents or his parents the divorced was confined to desertion without just cause or excuse for 3 years and upwards. Jeffrey only saw his daughter Janette once in the first year she was born. Since that time he has never been heard of again or appeared on any electoral rolls.

I put in the additional information about Jeffery and Elsie since someone reading it may throw some light on what story did eventuate for Jeffrey. There may be step sisters and brothers who know. It would be good even to know a little. Or if there were some old photos. I have 4 photos of my father way back when he was in his 20s. Whatever the story it cannot hurt anyone now since they are all deceased most probably. Wonder if I could leave my email in my section?

Kind Regards,

Janette Simpson nee Morrison - janette simpson [bill.kent@bigpond.com]
