Hello Ian,
My Name is Robert McDonald-York and wife Carol 2 x grandfather was Norman MacDonald from Moidart who was arrived from Moidart and settled in Victoria where he married Ann McMaster from Moidart and they had 11 children, with Norman we had difficulty in obtaining records in Scotland but in Australia we have all records.
I am writing to you as we have had DNA tests and my wife had match to relative from Moidart who arrived on the “British King” in 1839 and Ancestry “Thru Lines” based on DNA we have been connect MacDonald’s in Victoria to NSW, Canada and the USA by finding the common ancestors, would you have information on any possible connections to Norman MacDonald.
We have his death certificate which clearly states his parents as Michael MacDonald and Mary Cummings and was born ABT 1827 and died in 1909.
All passengers on the “British King” were all from Moidart they maybe some information.
I am member of historical group.
Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.
Regards, Carol and Robert McDonald-York

Do you know who Johanna McMahon was? She is listed in the newspaper article you referenced as the sponsor of Thomas and Ellen.
We also have a Bridget McMahon in our database who married Thomas Piper in 1855 and died in Tumut in 1912 showing parents of Michael McMahon and Norah. Is this Bridget another sister perhaps?

The purpose of this
newsletter is four-fold:
1. To let people know
about all our activities including: the
"Back to Nimitybelle" Book and the Monaro
Pioneers Website.
2. To collect email and postal addresses of
as many people as we can, so that they may
be invited to contribute to this archive.
3. To collect Historical information about
the Monaro District and the Families that
have lived there.
4. And most importantly the newsletter is a
venue for people who have an interest in the
district to keep in contact with each other.
