Someone on Facebook Convict group has recently pointed me in the direction of Mount Cooper Cemetery, supposed site for burial of Elizabeth Miles.

 

I am particularly interested in the burial details for Elizabeth Miles, formerly Elizabeth Dixon.

 

I have seen on Wendy Crouch's full list that she has placed a question mark on Elizabeth. 

 

I hold a copy of her death certificate - attached. 

 

As you will see this says she was buried at Delegate on 23 March 1860, with some uncertain words underneath. Is this a change or just faint writing, I do not know.

 

Given she died at Currawong, why would they elect to bury her as far away as Mount Cooper?  We know that her husband William Miles was buried at Delegate when he died. A copy of his death certificate has been uploaded.

 

I am uncertain as to the source of information for Elizabeth at Mount Cooper.

 

Someone has also added in the middle name Jane. None of the certificates I hold ever refer to her as Elizabeth Jane Dixon. Another uncertainty.

 

The other contentious issue is the inclusion on where she was born as County Clare. This should have a mark indicating that her death certificate is the only source of this "fact".

 

She came to Van Diemen's Land as a convict, after being tried at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in Northumberland. Possibly a tale told to cover convict origins. We will never know the truth on her birthplace.

I've been browsing the Monaro Pioneers website and noticed that a couple of my uncles & aunties death dates are not included in their information, so thought I'd forward the details on so that they can be updated.

 

The alterations for 3 children of Katherine Agnes Leonard (daughter of Eliza Turnbull & Daniel Patrick Leonard) and Arthur Herbert Bentley.

1.       Douglas Raymond Bentley – died 3 Nov 2017

2.       John/Jack Ernest Bentley – died 6 Apr 2019

3.       Pearl Elaine Bentley – died 5 Feb 2021

Over the last few years my extended family have restored and cleaned quite a few family headstones in the Cathcart Cemetery. I would like to contribute photos of these updated headstones to the Monaro Pioneers database because they are clearer and more readable than the pre-restoration images on the Database. I also have a a few photos of forebears which are not yet in the Database. Please advise me of the best way to submit these images.

You mentioned in a post last week that you would like to see more pioneers shown on the data base.

 

Could you please include Philip and Frances Bowerman. I have attached death certificates, a newspaper notice and family history  which has been collected by Beverly Bowerman in the UK.  My scanner isn't working at the moment so I hope photos from my phone are okay.

 

Philip and Frances (Fanny) came to Australia on board the Una arriving in Sydney in 1849.  Philip worked at Coolringdon for 41 years.  Philip was an uncle to Richard Bowerman who's information is shown on the data base.  After Francis died, Philip married Maria Newman.  There were no children from either marriage.

He married Fanny Australia Tidyman on 21 December 1909 in Parramatta, New South Wales. They had one son during their marriage.

Fanny was born on 11 February 1880 in Bathurst, New South Wales, parents Christopher Tidyman & Sarah Dowse. She died on 21 April 1931 in Burwood, New South Wales, at the age of 51.
