Good morning Ian my name is Angela Reed and the entry for George Hayes Meaker I believe the site shows his name as George Meaker and his wife EmilyAnn Meaker nee Meade. Emily's Mother's name is  incorrect - it is shown as Allison. I have tried to contact the person who put this information however I have been unable to do so. Her mothers name was Mary Ann Meade. I have attached a copy of Emily's baptismal record.

I look forward to hearing from you.

MILES

On 2021-07-01 11:22, Rosalyn McDonald wrote:

Hello Ian

Someone on Facebook Convict group has recently pointed me in the direction of Mount Cooper Cemetery, supposed site for burial of Elizabeth Miles.

I am particularly interested in the burial details for Elizabeth Miles, formerly Elizabeth Dixon.

I have seen on Wendy Crouch's full list that she has placed a question mark on Elizabeth.

I hold a copy of her death certificate - attached.

As you will see this says she was buried at Delegate on 23 March 1860, with some uncertain words underneath. Is this a change or just faint writing, I do not know.

Given she died at Currawong, why would they elect to bury her as far away as Mount Cooper?  We know that her husband William Miles was buried at Delegate when he died. A copy of his death certificate has been uploaded.

I am uncertain as to the source of information for Elizabeth at Mount Cooper.

Someone has also added in the middle name Jane. None of the certificates I hold ever refer to her as Elizabeth Jane Dixon. Another uncertainty.

The other contentious issue is the inclusion on where she was born as County Clare. This should have a mark indicating that her death certificate is the only source of this "fact".

She came to Van Diemen's Land as a convict, after being tried at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in Northumberland. Possibly a tale told to cover convict origins. We will never know the truth on her birthplace.

Kind regards

Rosalyn McDonald

PS - In time, I will also check more recent family details. It's been a while since I looked at the Pioneers database. It's a fantastic resource, just want it to be accurate.

Thank you Rosalyn, your help in making the DB as accurate as possible is much appreciated.

I have modified the record for Elizabeth in line with the information in the Death Certificate.

Good morning Ian, my name is Debbie and I have recently looked at your website regarding information held on parts of my family tree (I contributed some information quite a long time ago to some historians) but haven't had a look at the more recent information on your website until recently when I began to update my family history information).  My family tree include parts of the White; Leck/Ah Lick; Rixon; Blinman; Hay; Gammon; Try family trees.

I have some amendments/corrections/information and was wondering what is the best way to let you know – including some copies of death; birth; marriage certificates if you need them to verify – and some information has been passed down from my grandmother.  I am at this stage just talking about information relating to Harry Ah Leck and his family listed under Ref No. MP64628 as that is where I have started cross checking against the information I hold.

Thanks your advice is appreciated,

Debbie Ravanello nee White

Hi Debbie,

Thank you for the offer, please send your new information/corrections and images of certificates to me at this address and I can then add and update the material to the database.

If you are using genealogy software, then descendant reports are probably the best way of supplying the information but I can handle gedcom files if you prefer.

Regards, Ian

Thanks Ian – you probably are going to cringe here but I am not using any genealogy software (long story) – so I have just noted changes/amendments in an excel document, noting the Person ID number and their name so you can locate who I am suggesting changes on.  I tried not to complicate things – just listed the actual changes with comments (and the rest of your information would still stand as is) and I included photo of each certificate where applicable.

My first amendment covers Nathaniel Thomas White (listed on website as Thomas Nathaniel White ID I44839/Refer No MP44839) who is my dad's (Noel James White) father.

I will send through next week changes for Harry Ah Leck Ref No. MP64628 which is who I thought I'd start with but ended up tackling my dad's father's side first (Harry was my grandmother's side).

If the format I have sent through isn't suitable can you please let me know but hopefully the spreadsheet of changes will make sense.

Hope you have had a good weekend and the next week is an enjoyable one.

Thanks

Debbie Ravanello nee White

Thank you Debbie,
That format is fine.

Could you please include Philip and Frances Bowerman. I have attached death certificates, a newspaper notice and family history  which has been collected by Beverly Bowerman in the UK.  My scanner isn't working at the moment so I hope photos from my phone are okay.

Philip and Frances (Fanny) came to Australia on board the Una arriving in Sydney in 1849.  Philip worked at Coolringdon for 41 years.  Philip was an uncle to Richard Bowerman who's information is shown on the data base.  After Francis died, Philip married Maria Newman.  There were no children from either marriage.

Thank you once again

Your are correct, Phillip Bowerman should be listed as a Pioneer on our Index and now is as well as being included in our Database.
