I've just discovered the omission of my great grandfather from a family tree... It was published some years ago. I have no idea if there have been later corrections.

Hi Robin,
These cases are tricky, Clara Janet was born illegitimate to Emily Grace Warwick who herself was born illegitimate to Alice Mary Elizabeth Morris Austen. Clara was then raised by her Grandparents as their own.
Genealogy software do not adequately handle this type of situation and I try to do the best to properly represent the situation within the limitations of the software.

HAWES

Dear Coordinator
I have copies of the passports granted to William Hawes in storage, which I will try to retrieve shortly.
This is a story that I've put up on ancestry, which might prove interesting, at the least:
Francis Nicholas Rossi (1776-1851), soldier and public servant, was born in Corsica, France, and joined the British Army in an Anglo-Corsican battalion in 1795. After several postings, in August 1824 he accepted the post of superintendent of police in New South Wales, offered to him by Earl Bathurst.
After retirement in November 1834 he lived on his property Rossiville in the Goulburn district. He took up a run at Micilago soon afterwards. The estimated area of that property was about thirty-five thousand acres, and capable of maintaining about nine thousand sheep. The property was bounded by Micilago Creek on the north, Colliers Creek on the south, Tinderee mountains on the east, and the Murrumbidgee river to the west. The area is essentially the present day town and district of Michelago.
The Ryrie family, Manaroo pioneers, eventually acquired the Micalago run from Captain Francis Nicholas Rossi. The main street of Michelago is named Ryrie Street. Interestingly, at Hawes wedding to Mary Fox at Arn Prior (modern day Larbert) in 1842, a member of the Ryrie family was a witness.
From the evidence he gave to a Court in Sydney in 1836 about having been an overseer for both Hannibal McArthur and Dr Andrew Gibson, Hawes may also have been employed as an overseer with Rossi. It is also at least possible he was employed at the property by the Ryries.
The district was fairly lawless at the time of Hawes' employment. The following two newspaper articles give some idea of the locality at the time:
The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser, Tue 12 Mar 1839, page 2
The Squatting Act.
WEDNESDAY, FERRUARY 20, 1839.
(CONTINUED FROM OUR LAST.)
THURSDAY, FEBRRUARY 21, I839.
John Lambie, Esq.. Commissioner of Crown Lands, called in and examined.
My district extends from Micilago on the North, to the farthest station South ; its length is at least two hundred miles ; its breadth may be computed at from ninety to one hundred ; it contains about fifteen hundred souls, consisting of Free and Bond nearly in equal proportions ; according to the latest returns, the number of cattle in the district was 69,994; sheep, 239,157 ; horses, 1,617 ; there are some extensive herds of horses in the district; my estimate of the population of the district includes only the Whites ; I am unable to state the number of Aborigines ; they have, however, hitherto been quiet and inoffensive, and I do not conceive any additional force necessary to keep them in order. I consider that to carry into effect the provisions of this Bill, it will be necessary to have six men with me in my district, which would be quite sufficient; I think these men should be well armed and each of them provided with two horses, as the difficulty of providing forage is very great....
The Australian, Thu 7 Nov 1839 , page 3
Country News.
Goulburn, Nov. 2. — The Lock-up at Queanbeyan was broken open on Monday morning, the 27th ult., and five bushrangers effected their escape. The Police Magistrate, Captain Faunce, immediately set out in pursuit, and at nine o'clock the same night captured four of them, with the assistance of Mr Thomson, Innkeeper, at Micalago, about thirty-six miles from the lock-up — they were brought the next morning before the Police Bench, and committed to take their trial on several charges. In consequence of the miserable arrangements of the police in this part of the country, and the great number of desperadoes who are prowling about the interior, it was found expedient to swear in a number of ticket- of-leave men at Goulburn, as special constables.
The delightful showers with which this part of the country has been visited, has given the plains in particular, a most delightful and healthy appearance."

Hi Faye,
Thank you for the email.
I have done a little extra research based on the information you have provided and have now included in our database the 2 sisters of Maria Mitchell Tansley who also came to Australia. My research results differ from the information you provided though. Maria's sister Emma married William Brownell and lived till 1931. Alice Ann Tansley married Robert Weare and had 5 children before she died in 1888. Only 3 of her children outlived her.
I look forward to any additional information you can provide.

Thomas Fleming (1854-1901) - Find A Grave...
Although various family researchers show his death in the 1880s in Cooma (no source documentation provided though), I have found a record of entry for a Thomas Fleming to the Liverpool Insane Asylum for the Infirm, dated 27 March 1895. Admission docs show his age as 80 and in the Remarks column noted he had been born circa 1815 and arrived in Australia on the "Camden (2)".This matches all other records for Thomas Fleming of Monaro.
A copy of the admission of Thomas Fleming to Liverpool Hospital, and a burial record, are attached for your perusal.
Thank you the information and images.
Your evidence does appear to be compelling proof of Thomas' death and burial. This email will be in our next newsletter and we shall see what comments if any that may bring forth.

A bit confusing as she is definitely listed as being buried in Braidwood Cemetery as well, at least according to the transcription records along with her daughter Pamela.
