Hello Ian,
I am able to identify the 2 photos in the unrecognised photos from Betty Raffaele.  They are both photos of various members of the James families who lived on various properties around Nimmitabel  from 1860 till at least 1949 and in the town for much longer, if not even today.
The top photo was taken at Square Range 1900 and names can be found on page 191 of Vol 1 "The Journey from Nimitybelle to Nimmitabel".
The second photo is the family of James James the Younger taken at Glen Forest Nimmitabel 1902 , page 184 of the same book.

I have tried to register for access to the site today as I am descended from the James family at Nimmitabel,

Regards
Jenny Jeffery nee James

Hi Jenny,

Sadly, I don't have a copy of the book you reference so am unable to do much with your information.  Perhaps you could scan the pages you reference and send to me to assist the identification process.

Ian,

Here is the very helpful Death Certificate I purchased relating to Thomas Fleming.  Could you add it to his other documents on Monaro Pioneers please. This shows that his mother’s name was not Mary, as my sister Gwen Hubert had thought, and set in train the search for a more likely birth registration from the UK records.

Kindest regards – and thanks for all your wonderful work.

Jan Campbell

Hello Ian    I so enjoy  your paper  and am glad to see some of my ancestors are getting some press.  My second cousin Faye Brea posted in the September issue about her grandmother Maud (nee Burch) who was a sister to my grandmother.  But her name was Frances not Florence as Faye says.   My grandmother was of course married to Fred Osmond whose mother was Emily Sturt.  So a lot of work has been done on the Sturt Osmond  connection.  But I am so glad that there is now work on my grandmother's side,  that is the Burch Tansley side of the family.  Any information on that is wonderful.  Thank you  Beverley Hicks

Hi Beverley,
Please check our database to see if we have the correct information.  A bit confusing as Joseph Burch and Maria had a daughter Frances Maria b1875 and died 1948 in NZ and a daughter Florence May b1892 and died 1965 Bowral, NSW.

WELLSMORE

Ian,

I am onforwarding the 4 Certificates I have recently purchased which will clear up some variable information relating to our family history and leave a few more questions.

As you will see there is a variety of spelling for Wellsmore and a variety of names for Dad’s little sister Madeline who was Madeline Lucy at birth and Lucy Madeline when she died from ruptured appendix at 5 years but was always called Madeline.

One thing which is puzzling is that my sister has brief access to what was said to be Ellen Sarah Wellsmore’s diary which showed that my great grandfather James was born at Queanbeyan 1838 but his son James’ birth registration here indicates he was born at Yass.  Also his age is not correct as it should be 33 I think.

We have found in the National Library of Australia an index to letters indicating that convict Thomas Willsmore/Wellsmore had a connection to Thomas Rose at Yass but the actual letter has not yet been found though 6 shepherds are mentioned without naming them so it could be that James got his father’s previous place of work mixed up with the new position convict Thomas took in 1838 as a policeman at Bungendore which was overseen from Queanbeyan by A.T. Faunce.

Could you please add these Certificates to the MP records.

 Kindest regards

Jan Campbell/Wellsmore

Thank you Jan,
