Good morning Ian
I am trying to ascertain more information on the George Alexander Wright who held a billiard-room licence in 1876 for the Club Hotel in Bega.
There was a G A Wright & Co, Bakers, in Bega, in 1876
I found one GAW on the MP database – I am still not sure he is the one I am after – but I will share with you the extra information I have gained, to add to yours.
Best regards, Liz Smit
Hi Liz,
Thanks for the information, I have updated the DB accordingly.
Regards, Ian

PHOTO QUERY

Hello Ian,
I am sending this photo and wondering if there is anyone still alive down there who may recognise anyone in this photo from old photos they may have.
I have sent by phone (a better image) to the daughter of Beryl Seears , formerly of Bungarby, 95 yrs. to see if she can check whether Beryl recognises anyone that she might have seen in a family photo somewhere. I am wondering if this was a gathering of the Peters Family from Bungarby (one of the Peters girls married a Seears). It would date back to the late 1800s or early 1900’s is my guess.
It was with old photos we have here and I don’t recognise any of the faces. I am not sure whether this was originally with our family photos or given to me by Helen Macarthur, formerly, Hain . One of the Hains (Cooma) also married a Peters girl. My Murdoch grandfather’s first wife was a Peters. Some years ago Helen sent me a photo of a man who she thought might have been my grandfather. I thought it was not but I wondered if it was an O’Hare (who also married a Peters – there were 7 of them!). In the attached photo the man third from right in the back row (light jumper) resembles the man Helen thought might have been my grandfather.
The Peters family have an interesting history and owned a large tract of Bungarby in the late 1800’s.
I originally thought this was a family gathering at Ironmungy but now that I look at it again I am thinking there are not enough trees, or water, as I would have thought there would have been at that time so it is quite possible that it was taken somewhere else altogether and not a Monaro photo after all and may not be, and probably is not, the Peters Family or Helen would have recognised some of them from other photos.
Don’t waste any time over it . It is all a long time ago but if we can identify anyone in it the family may like to have it. The photo has been torn out of an album I think but it is still an impressive group photo.
Kind regards, Margaret Studley (nee Caldwell, nee Murdoch) ex Bungarby and now living in Newcastle.
This is the best I can do through my scanner. The photo on the iphone is a better one but did not come out as well when I sent it to my email.
Hi Margaret,
We can put your request and image in our next newsletter but I do strongly recommend to add it to our Facebook page with your comments.
Regards, Ian

Dear Ian,
I was wandering around the internet over the long weekend and came across Monaro Pioneers. In it I found a reference to my (and my sister's – copied) great great grandfather Edward Haslingden, who landed in Australia in 1832.
I was able to access the genealogy report and found that it only goes as far as our father, Edward Bruce Haslingden. I'd like to add to the data base if I can.
Kind Regards,
Edward David Haslingden
Thank you David,
I found the sketch you referred to and attached it the Edward's record.
