Thank you Jeanne,
What a challenge to sort this one out. I cannot find any evidence of a child Leslie James Hutchinson/Ward.
I wonder what prompted the name change from Hutchinson to Ward?
Regards, Ian
I spent several hours researching these folks and it's a headache in data
I think the key is in the
parents. The suggestion on Ward's parents. The lady I suggested as his Mother
married a Ward after Hutchinson
died & I think he assumed his stepfather's
surname.

Hi Ian,
my name is Kevin Benson and i am looking for information about the above named priest.
My wife's great uncle was the parish priest in Cooma for 2-3 years until 1900. His name is Father Daniel Harnett. He passed away in 1900
nd was buried at Cooma. His brother, Father Daniel Harnett, who died in Bega in 1905 is buried with his brother. We will be visiting Cooma
in early July 2022 and was wondering whether there is any information/photos of Father Daniel's time at Cooma. We will visit the grave at
Cooma cemetery.
Both brothers were Irish born priests from County Kerry. They had a sister who was a Good Samaritan nun in Sydney and a brother
who was a policeman in the South Australian Police force.
Please advise if you have any information on Father Daniel or if you could direct us to a publication that may contain this information.
I have extracted all information I can from Trove and are looking for alternative sources of information. The Trove extracts are attached.
Many Thanks, Kevin Benson
Hi Kevin,
I suggest you contact the Cooma Historical Society who maintain a
collection of historical documents and archives

Hi Ian
My 3x great grandfather William Isaac(s) arrived in Sydney with his wife and children on the David Mc Iver on 24 September 1858.
Sometime between then and 1861 he moved to Cooma where he died on 13 October 1861.
I'd love to know what he was doing there, was he farming or mining for gold? Was his wife Rebecca and children (Rebecca, William Helen/Ellen,
Martha, Abraham and Eleanor) with him. I know that most of them arrived in Wellington New Zealand in 1863/64 with daughter Rebecca sailing
from Melbourne to Wellington.
I visited Cooma in 2000 but wasn't able to find out anything. I'm hoping that you may be able to find a tidbit or two.
Kind regards
Alan Isaac
Hi Alan,

ALLEN
On 2022-06-08 19:37, Christine Phillips wrote:
Dear Ian
Thank you for your work regarding the Monaro Pioneers website - it is a very useful and valuable resource.
I am writing to update the details regarding Mary Ann Allen born 22 Nov 1843 to Benjamin Allen (1819 – 1852) and Ann Jane Waite (1824 – 1861).
According to the Monaro
Pioneers website, George Gray and Mary Ann Gray died in Goulburn in 1918 and
1921 respectively.
I cannot locate any record of these deaths in New South Wales
Birth Deaths and Marriages registers and I notice there is no sources cited on
the
Goulburn deaths.
I am descended from Mary Ann Allen, 22 Oct 1843 – 11 Jan 1885, as follows:
Mary Ann Allen married George Gray (20 Jun 1830 – 2 Mar 1890) on 24th January 1865. NSW Marriage Certificate 1710/1865 (copy attached).
· Mary's father is noted on the certificate as Benjamin Allen, Squatter.
· Mary Ann and George Gray had the following children:
o Annie Gray (1866 - 24 Mar 1950)
§ No birth certificate can be located
§ Marriage Certificate attached noting mother as Mary Ann Gray previously Allen
o Margaret Gray (25 Mar 1869 Coramba – 8 Aug 1949)
§ No birth certificate can be located.
§ Marriage Certificate attached noting mother as Mary Ann Gray previously Allen
(note this is the same certificate as her sister,
Annie, as they married on the
same day).
o John Gray (March 1876 Echuca, Vic – 24 Sep 1905, Talbot, Vic).
§ No birth certificate can be located but death certificate attached noting parents - George Gray and Mary Ann Allen
o George Gray (1878 Taree, NSW – 1926 Tooley NSW)
§ No birth certificate can be located but death certificate attached noting parents.
o Isabella Mary Jane Gray (28 Aug 1881, Swan Hill – 28 Aug 1969, Araarat, Vic)
§ Birth registration number 19909, Victoria, 1881
§ Marriage certificate attached noting parents
· Mary Ann Gray died on 11 Jan 1885 in Swan Hill, Victoria.
o Death certificate is attached. While Mary Ann's surname is correctly listed
as Allen, the remaining details of her parents are not
correct or incomplete. It
appears that George Gray may have been in custody at the time of his wife's
death, and so the details given
were by someone not aware of the information
(maybe her children?).
· My connection:
o George Gray married Sarah Barbara Price (1879 – 1944) on 14 April 1908:
§ Clifford George Edward Gray (1909 – 1909)
§ John Edward George Gray (1911 – 1979)
§ Vera Isabella Sarah Gray (1915 – 2012)
§ Alma Evelyn Gray (1919 – 2001)
o Vera Isabella Sarah Gray married Thomas William Horsfall (1912 – 1967)
§ Donald John Horsfall married Alison Ellen Hughes
· Christine Anne Horsfall married Dale Phillips
To further support the
connection to Benjamin Allen and Ann Jane Waite's daughter Mary Ann Allen are
multiple DNA connections to both
lines through Ancestry.
I trust this research is sufficient for you to update your records, but if you require any further details, please let me know.
Kind regards, Christine Phillips.
Thank you Christine,
Our records have been amended to include your information.
Regards, Ian

Proposed Change: Duffell, Thomas Joseph (I36568) Tree: SE NSW Pioneers and Settlers Link: http://monaropioneers.com/getperson.php?personID=I36568&tree=MP Description: "The Tumut and Adelong Times", Thursday December 9, 1915: FOUND DEAD - "Sen. Sgt. Costello received a telephone message from Constable Cahill, of Ravine, on Sunday last, stating that the dead body of a man (name unknown) had been found on the bush track leading from Ravine to Kiandra, about six miles from the former town. The constable also communicated with the Kiandra police, and Constable Lynch journeyed over to assist in the investigation. Constable Cahill learnt of the discovery of the body from Messrs. Walter M. Harrison and G. Crockett, who were out fern-hunting in the very rough country, and after passing through a fence they espied an object lying under a bush. They went to within a few feet of it, and on realising that it was a man lying there dead they retreated, lest tracks they would make may be misleading. They returned to Ravine and reported to the constable that they had seen a dead black-fellow - they concluded it was an aboriginal, because the exposed skin was quite black; they also stated that by appearance they would say the man had been dead about a couple of days. Messrs. Harrison, Crockett, and several others accompanied the constable to the spot where the discovery was made, and Constable Lynch met them on the road and also went to the place. The police searched the pockets of the deceased, finding them empty, but on account of the advanced stage of decomposition reached it was not possible to make a careful investigation. On the fence nearby was found a brown cap and a small leather handbag, in which was a pension card bearing the name of Thomas Duffell. It showed that the pension had been paid at Adaminaby for the last twelve months, and a transfer of it from Adaminaby to the Tumbarumba office was endorsed thereon. The date on the pension paper was 5th October, and the deceased was seen in Kiandra about the middle of October, so it is conjectured that he left about that date, and death must have ensued whilst the man was on his way from there to Ravine or Tumbarumba, he having got lost, and died from starvation and exposure. There was no sign of any food or money in the bag, nor were there any clothes other than light ones found on the body. There was nothing to indicate that any foul play had taken place. The body was lying on its back the hands folded across the chest, and the right leg was crossed over the left one. "From inquiries made we understand that deceased was a man of about 70 years of age, and has married daughters at Adaminaby and Berridale. He at one time followed the calling of a herbalist, and was a respectable man, steady and sober. He had for years resided at Bombala and Adaminaby, and was well known in those places. "The coroner, Mr. S. Groves, accompanied by Dr. Clouston, left Tumut on Sunday evening to hold an inquest, and the same was conducted early on Monday morning. Those who gave evidence were Mr W. M. Harrison and Constable Cahill - the latter stated that it was impossible to remove the body from where it was found, owing to putrefaction. It was therefore necessary for him to accompany Dr. Clouston to where the remains were, the journey of six miles from the Ravine hotel had to be accomplished in the middle of the night, and taking until daylight on the following morning, the country traversed being some of the roughestand steepest to be found in the State. "Dr. Clouston, after examining the body, said it was that of a fairly thick set man, about 5ft 8in high. The beard and hair were quite white. Features were totally destroyed, both eyes had disappeared, the fleshy part of the nose was gone, and also the lips. Flesh on the right side of the face had fallen away from the bones and the fingernails had rolled off. It was impossible to give any idea of the cause of death, but from the position of the body, head lying down hill, it was probable that the man had fallen down exhausted, and the deceased had lain in that position for at least two months, probably longer. "A verdict of found dead was returned." Transcribed by Kevin Shaw, 2 January 1996 Jeanne Roelle Yen
