Subject: Possible information
Date: 19 October 2022 at 9:05:53 pm AEDTHello,My name is Sandra Hodges and I am a descendant of Richard Stephen Rowe the first and second that had a butcher shop at majors creek. There is a newspaper clipping that describes Richard snr as the last of the great pioneers of the region. An amazing story.I was searching the monaro pioneers website for information and wasn't able to locate any information on them. So I was wondering, with some help or guidance I can give you all the information I have starting with William Rowe 1810-1893 a convict arriving in Sydney 20 Aug 1830 and going to the Goulburn area. I would really love to add my ancestors if they are not already part of the site and if they are part of the site could you please tell me how to find them.I would also really appreciate being on your news letter email list please.Thank you for your timeKind regardsSandra HodgesHi Sandra,Your ancestors do indeed exist on our website, contained within the DB. We have details on William Rowe and his wife Maria Jane Woodland and their 6 children and descendants. We would be most grateful for any corrections and/or new information you can provide.Regards, IanThank you so much Ian,I will look at the link now.Can I just say how amazing your site is. It has been a wonderful resource with researching my family history. I have about 4 ancestral lines on your site.KindlySandra

From the right.Richard Whitfield shoeing the horse, next is Puncho Yates (brother of Cocko, Jim Yates). 3rd, Henry Bale from Jembaicumbene. 4th, Boat Daft, brother of Tom Daft who was a fighting man. They lived on the right-hand side of the Goulburn Road, at the foot of Daft Hill,3 miles from Braidwood, where they had slaughter yards and a butcher shop, under the pine trees, just before Dawson's cottage. 5th, Richard Rowe a business man and friend of Richard. 6th was a McGrath from Colombo.
The man with the car is Richard Stephen Rowe jnr 1900-1964 and on the bike and with his brothers William Roy Rowe 1898-1974 and Austin A Rowe 1904-1981 all taken around Braidwood and majors Creek.

Description: Hi MonaroPioneers!
I'ev just noticed that two memorials exist at the Find-a-Grave website for Nevill Arthur Furnell with an identical death date of 28.11.1981: however thay are at two different cemeteries:
www.findagrave.com/memorial/194363924/ (at Delegate, NSW) 2018
www.findagrave.com/memorial/216708754/ (at Bombala, NSW), 2020
(the year at the end is when each memorial was created).
You have photographs of the headstones of Neville and also his wife, Ruby, at MonaroPioneers. Could you please check with whoever you got them from whether they definitely come from Delegate Cemetery or not, as is stated on your website? Could they have made a mistake?
I am currently writing to the administrator of the Bombala Memorial at Findagrave.com, to ask him to double check his records too. He has quoted a precise plot location, so it is possible that he might be working from cemetery records.
many thanks!
Pieter

Hello Ian,
My name is Frank Davies, in researching one of my convict ancestors I have come across your website and hope you may be able help.
One of my ancestors, Edward Offer, arrived in New South Wales aboard the Neva on the 21st of November 1833 having been convicted of horse stealing in Somerset on the 15th of October 1832..
I have a copy of a Ticket of Leave dated the 3rd of February 1845 stating that he is allowed to 'proceed to Maneroo in the service of Thomas Dawson for 12 months". This is on the recommendation of the Queanbeyan Bench dated the 8th of January 1845.
If it is not too much trouble would you be so kind as to check your records for any information that you may have about a Thomas Dawson around that time,
I have attached a copy of the Ticket of Leave for your reference.
Any information will be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Hi Frank,
We do have details of a Robert Dawson who held a squatting run on the Monaro about that time. He did have a son Thomas. The details of this family are in our database.
Regards, Ian
