A Link with 1788, The Collins Family
It is not generally known that the Numeralla Branch of the Collins family is descended from Judge Advocate, David Collins, who read the Commission to Captain Phillip when that officer established British Government in Sydney in 1788, and who was practically head of the Judicial System in the new colony for some eight years.
The late Mr. James Collins, of Numeralla was a grandson of the Judge Advocate, and was born in Sydney on the 17th September 1834, being christened at St. James C of E shortly afterwards. Of Mr. James Collins children there still survive, Mrs. William Goodwin, Mrs. D. D. Norris, (Elizabeth or Bessie of Campsie) Sydney, of Numeralla and Wilkie of Ramsgate, Mr. Charles Collins another son died at Numeralla some time ago and leaves a widow and son Charles.
Mr. David Collins was born in Exeter in 1756 and died 1810 presumably in
Hobart where he was deputy governor.

Hullo Ian
Was glad to see the additions to the original article from 1938
regarding my great grandfather James Collins (being a grandson of David
Collins). Could you please let me know who was the contributor of the the 1st
generation as I have doubts as to their authenticity. After much research, (I
would love to have this proven to be true, but I can't see it to be so) James
Collins (ship Boyne) and Margaret Bryan (ship Edward) were married 1st 0ct
1832 at campbelltown Reg. No. 11 V129 religion Roman catholic.
A James Collins was born (Reg. No. 648 V129) to them on 7th may
1835 and baptised 14th July 1835 at St Mary's Cathedral Sydney. This boy is
obviously not the same boy mentioned in the newspaper article of 1938 as he
was Christened at St. James in1834 and has no tie in with David Collins. I
have researched everything I can find about David Collins and his mistress/es
and have been unable to find any offspring called James so I have to treat my
connection with David with a fair amount of doubt.
