JOHN CULLEN was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, in 1820, and at a very early age came to Australia, landing in 1837. After working in the employ of Messrs. Roberts and Co., Castlereagh Street, Sydney, he worked as a digger in Bendigo and, having been successful, was induced to come to New South Wales. He settled in the Manaro District, and on 1st December, 1859, at a special Licensing Meeting of the Bench of Magistrates, was granted a general publican's license for premises situated at Reid's Flat (now Bunyan), formerly licensed, and known by the name of "The Squatters Arms." This he conducted for some
considerable period, eventually buying the property, which was later acquired by Thomas Power, and used as a residence. The building is still in existence, being occupied by David Power, a son of the former owner. "BACK TO COOMA" Felix Mitchell 1926 Page 75 - Transcribed by Pattrick Mould 2002
