Thomas Fleming was an early pioneer of the Nimmitabel district, who came to NSW in 1833 in the ship “Camden”as a convict . He had been a shoemaker’s boy in London. He was assigned to Duncan MacFarlane the same year and came with him to Bukalong . He obtained a Ticket of Leave in 1837 and was given his certificate of Freedom on 10 April 1841. Thomas married Mary Ann Wellsmore in 1851, daughter of Thomas Willsmore and Mary Barrett at Bukalong . He was residing at Mount Cooper at the time. John Boucher JP of Buckalong (sic) and John Piper of Cooma were the witnesses to the marriage , which was conducted by Rev Gifford Pryce.
The early history of the Bombala end of the Monaro District as published on Monaro Pioneers site was mostly supplied by him at the time when he was in his eighties and living at Ingram’s farm on Boucher’s Creek . He was interviewed by Henry T. Edwards and the notes copied by H. A. Rose and supplied by Maureen McGee. There are many descendants of Thomas and Mary Ann .
