EDWARD HASLINGDEN was born in England in 1810 and landed in Australia from the brig "Mail" in 1832. In conjunction with Mr. Lord he carried on a large business, the firm being extensive station owners, He was one of the promoters of the Commercial Bank, and one of the Trustees of old St. Phillip's Church. About 1836, with Mr. E. Manning, he had all the Parramatta River steamer trade. He came to Manaro in 1843, and acquired the Big Badger Run, of 16,000 acres. This he carried on for a number of years.
Mr. Haslingden died in Bega in March, 1886. His widow lived to attain the age of 103. One son, Alexander, who died some ten years ago, married Edith, daughter of Robert Dawson, Cooma's first Police Magistrate, and their son now manages Kelton Plain, his late father's property. A daughter, Matilda, married Mr. Harkness, of Lincluden Station, and their daughter, who married Mr. W. W. Hedges, one of Manaro's well-known men, still resides at Rock Flat, where the old homestead (now burnt down) originally stood.
