Genealogy


Joseph James immigrated with his family on the “Alfred” in 1859 aged 10 years. His parents were Nancy (Crutchley) and James James. Joseph married Ellen Mudie on 9 January 1871 and had the following 12 children
Helen, Joe, Jim, Charlie, Arthur, Jack, Sam, Sug (Albert), Sid, Herbie, Isabel and Alice. 

 

SAM JAMES
SAM JAMES MARRIED KATIE MANNING
on 27 November 1927 at St Andrew’s Catholic Church Nimmitabel, 7 children all born in Nimmitabel except Beryl who was born in Sydney. The children were Beryl, Arthur, Kathleen, Esther, Ellen, Leonard and Rita.

All children of Sam and Katie’s were educated at St Joseph’s Nimmitabel.
Sam
belonged to the James Family that lived in the Mansion” along Springfield Road, Nimmitabel. They cut large quantities of hay, and everyone came to help. Sam worked on the Shire and managed several properties in the area.
Sam
was often called upon to be Master of Ceremonies at functions due to his great sense of humour.
Sam
died in 1949 aged 59 years, he is buried in Nimmitabel Cemetery.

Katie died in October 1978.
Except for Esther who still lives in Nimmitabel, the family all left the area.

ESTHER JAMES married  TIMOTHY BUCKLEY (son of Jerry and Isabel Buckley)  
Tim
died in April 1977
Their children: Daniel, Raymond,   Neville, (born in Moss Vale) Alfred, Malcolm and Vivienne were all born in this area. All left the district for work opportunities. All married and settled  away from the district in NSW, Queensland and ACT.

Esther
still resides in Nimmitabel.
