As briefly recorded in our last issue the death occurred on Saturday last 20th October of Robert Jardine at his residence Murray St. Cooma, aged 77 years 9 months. He was the second son of the Late William Jardine (Snr) of Curry Flat. Deceased was born at Bullembalong and lived there for some time, then went with his parents to Curry Flat.

He was educated at Kings School.

He married Janet McGufficke of Kelton Plain, and made his home at Bullembalong, where they resided for 25years and reared their family. They then lived for 25 years at Nitholme, near Cooma, and the last 7 years in Murray St. Cooma, (at the Old Parsonage, The Poplars in Murray St

Robert lived a quiet life. He leaves his wife Janet, three daughters, Mrs. Otton (Esther) of Bega, Kit and Ida of Cooma, and one sone Harry of Bullambalong; 2 brothers Angus (Liverpool) and James (Griffith) 6 grandchildren, One daughter (Lill) Mrs. Shepherd, predeceased him.

The funeral which was largely attended was held on Monday last. Service was held in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and the body was laid to rest in the Presbyterian portion of the Mittagang Cemetery. Rev R. Maidment, Bega officiated at the church and at the graveside. Mr. J.F. Allen had charge of the funeral arrangements and Messrs James Montague, Frank Otten, George Taylor, William Jardine Arthur Rolfe and Norman Casey were pall bearers.

As briefly stated in the last issue, the death occurred on Wednesday morning last, 14th inst. at her home Murray St. Cooma, of Janet widow of the late Mr. Robert Jardine, at the age of 81 years.

Mrs. Jardine’s health has noticeably failed since the death of her life partner last October, and death was not unexpected.

Born at Cootralantra on 18th July 1854, deceased was the youngest daughter but one of the late Mr. & Mrs. James McGufficke of Kelton Plain. Her brother Mr. John Inman McGufficke, of " Moonbah" Jindabyne, is now the sole surving member of their family, and is 87 years of age.

Miss McGufficke married Mr. Robert Jardine in 1880 at Kelton Plain and they made their home at Bullambalong, were their five children were born and reared, viz. Mrs. L.H. Shepherd (deceased) Mrs. F. Otton of Bega, Misses Katherine (Kit) and Ida of Cooma, and Harry of Bullambalong. There are six grandchildren Viz., Betty & Janet Otton, Norma, Janet, Robert and Ronald Jardine.

About 25 years ago Mr. & Mrs Jardine and their daughters came to live on their properties at Nitholme, and Cooma. Mr. Harry Jardine taking over Bullambalong, and father and son working the Nitholme property in conjunction.

Children of two of the oldest pioneering families of Monaro, whose parents were hardy Scots from Dumfries, Mr. & Mrs Jardine possessed outstanding qualities of character and were noted for their generous minded hospitality and assistance particularly to folk not so fortunately placed

Mrs Jardine had an excellent memory and being in addition a constant reader of current events could talk most interestingly of national and local matters. Physically she remained active until about six weeks ago, since when she was confined more or less to her bed, but her mental faculties remained clear to the end.

She took a great interest in the Presbyterian Church and was a strong supporter of the work of the St. Andrew’s Women’s guild in Cooma. In various other ways she set an example of earnest untiring usefulness and her passing will be greatly regretted by a very large circle of friends as well as by her family and relatives.

The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon, 15th inst. and was largely attended. Following a service in St. Andrew’s Church the remains were taken to Mittagong General Cemetery and laid to rest in the Presbyterian Section beside those of her late husband and her daughter. Rev. .J Allen officiated at the church and the graveside. Four nephews Messrs Norman, Edward, Harry and Reg McGufficke were pall bearers and Mr. J. F. Allen had charge of the funeral arrangements.
