CHARLES McGREGOR
came to Manaro more than 75 years ago. His first employment was as shepherd to Stewart Ryrie at Jindabyne, with whom he remained in various capacities for many years. He afterwards, with William Jardine, worked the flourmill erected by Mr. Ryrie at Jindabyne. He was thus engaged for about ten years, and after a period 0f five years conducted it for another two years, when it was taken over by his son Daniel. His son John, aged 74, and Daniel, 66, were both born at Jindabyne.

Obituary

The death took place at Cooma District Hospital on Wednesday 18th inst. following an illness of one month’s duration, of Mr. James McGregor, an old an respected resident of Jindabyne.

Deceased was born 69 years ago at Jindabyne, and was the third son of Mr. & Mrs, Charles McGregor, of Jindabyne. He lived at Jindabyne all his life, being mainly occupied in stock keeping in the mountains.

He married Caroline, the youngest daughter of the late Daniel and Mrs. Smith, of Middlingbank. She survives him together with three sons, Charles Daniel, James Thomas, Ernest Joseph, all of Jindabyne, and eight daughters, Mrs. George Venables (Cooma) Mrs Thomas Dawson (Cooma), Mrs. C. Murray (Cooma), Mrs. R. Jamieson, (Berridale), and Misses Mabel Annie, Margaret Helen, and Eliza May, (Sydney). And Frances Eva (Berridale): Also two brothers John and Daniel (Jindabyne), and three sisters Mrs. W. White, (Jindabyne), Mrs. James Adams, (Ardlethan) and Miss Helen McGregor (Jindabyne)

The remains were removed to the Cooma Presbyterian Church, and following a short service there by the Rev. J.N. McGee on the 19th Inst, the funeral left for the Presbyterian Cemetery at Round Plain, there being a large attendance at the graveside.

Rev. J.N. McGee officiated. The funeral was conducted by Mr. J.F. Allen.

Obituary

As already briefly recorded the death occurred at his home, "The Gullies," Moonbah, on Sunday, 23rd March ult., of Mr. Malcolm Cecil McGregor, at the age of 50 years.

Deceased was the third son of Mr. And Mrs. John McGregor, of Moonbah, and was born at Jindabyne; all his life was spent on Monaro. For the past 20 years he has carried out the mail contract between West Lynne and The Gullies.

He did not marry.

He leaves a brother James, Hamilton, and seven sisters., Isabell, Ada, Mrs. D.A. McGufficke (Elizabeth), Cooma; Mrs Adam Hanlon (Helen), Queanbeyan Mrs F.J. Smith (Elsie), Bredbo; Mrs. J. Byrnes (Caroline), Bundanoon; and Ruby, Darlinghurst. Two Brothers lost their lives in the First World War.

The remains were taken to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Cooma and following service there on Monday afternoon 24th ult., to Gegedzerick General Cemetery, in the Presbyterian Section f which they were laid to rest. Rev S. Piper officiated at both the church and graveside services, and Messrs. W. Spencer, W. Jones, W. Campbell and D. McGregor were pall bearers. Mr. F.H. Allen had charge of the funeral arrangements.

Obituary

The death occurred at Cooma District Hospital on Saturday, 22nd inst following a brief illness, of Katherine, widow of the late Mr. John McGregor, at the age of 78 years and 10 months.

Deceased was the fifth daughter (with a twin sister) of Mr. & Mrs Daniel Smith of Middlingbank. She was born at Middlingbank, and spent all her life on the Monaro.

She married John, second son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Charles McGregor, of Jindabyne, he predeceased her.

She is survived by two sisters - Mrs. F. Pendergast (twin), Strathfield, and Mrs. C. McGregor, of Cooma, two sons Malcolm and James, Jindabyne, seven daughters Isabella, Ada, Mrs. Donald McGufficke and Mrs. C. Byrne all of Cooma, Mrs. Adam Hanlon, Queanbeyan, Mrs. F. Smith Bredbo, and Ruby Woollahra, also 29 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The funeral which was largely attended, took place on Sunday, the remains being laid to rest in the C of E Section of the Gegedzerick Cemetery. Rev. O. B. Fleck officiated and Messrs. Malcolm and James McGregor Ossie Byrne and John O’Dwyer were pall bearers.
