GEORGE AND AMY EVERETT came to Nimmitabel from Goulburn in 1938, they settled at “Greenbank” with 3 of their children Winston, Douglas and Zelma. 2 older daughters remained in Goulburn

Douglas married Ina Helmers in January 1946 and took over “Greenbank” where they lived for 27 years raising children Maxwell, Gwendoline and Alan. They all attended Nimmitabel Primary school and then Monaro High School

Max left school and had an apprenticeship with Joe McLennan (Nimmitabel Butcher)

Gwen first worked at the local garage for Mr Ulf Kielstropp, and Alan started his working career at the local sawmill

Max married and moved to Canberra and then Lake Macquarie, having 2 children, and 3 grandchildren

Gwen married and moved to Cooma and then Gosford, they have 2 children and 1 grandchild

Alan married and moved to Canberra and then Kingaroy, he also has 2 children.

Ina and Doug moved to Cooma in 1973. Doug passed away in 1999, and Ina moved to Chain Valley Bay to be near Max and Gwen and families. Ina now has 4 great grandchildren


ALBERT HELMERS - moved from Delegate to “Thoko” near Nimmitabel, which was named Hilltop at the time.  He married Alice Holdsworth from “Dalwood”, a  nearby property   on 21/5/1902 at Nimmitabel.

They raised 4 children at “Thoko” – Herbert, Francis, Mabel and Ina. Herbert and Frank attended Thoko School, and Mabel and Ina attended Nimmitabel Convent school. Herbert married Ina Groves from Bombala and they took over “Thoko”
