STANLEY VICT0R OVEREND & ALICE ELIZABETH OVEREND
Nimmitabel 1926-1936. BUILDER.
Stanley was Son of JOHN WITLLIAM OVEREND OF County DOWN, NTH IRELAND
and
REBECCA HAMMOND of SYDNEY ex KENT, ENGLAND
Stanley had a dairy farm at Cathcart but was also a builder
Came to Nimmitabel to work for and with his friend CLARRIE BURKE. The work place was a SAWMILL out near the top of BROWN MOUNTAIN. Down a bending track From BUTLERS (near the lookout). The spot was well named as BIG BOG.
Later Stan took his Family to live in Nimmitabel due to the schooling needs. He then concentrated on building and much proof of that and it's effectiveness still stands today.
Transport was an old Tourer BUICK with celluloid type windows. Another was a snazzy looking ROLAND with a dicky-seat out at the back the lid of which dropped on the way to Cathcart once with two children (including me) inside. Great was the panic.
The homes then were mostly weatherboard with galvanized iron roofing.
We were in two rented homes first until a new one was built by Stan in BOYD ST on two blocks of land, Its still there.
Alice was the daughter of WILLIAM Gaunson of Cathcart. William was a wheel-right and carpenter His descent was from STH IRELAND, NTH GERMANY. His wife MARTHA ANNE SEIVERS was from EDEN area descent was NTH GERMANY, DENMARK, 12th Century VIKINGS , all men of the sea.
Alice and Stan had 11 children

Three of the above attended the PUBLIC SCHOOL and won three Jardine cups.
At that time we attended the CHURCH OF ENGLAND OVER THE 'FLAT'.
By 1936 Stan decided to return to the farm at CATHCART, "ERLSIDE". From there me have scattered all over Australia
Our family tree is very interesting, one member being a convict for a trivial offence. He is listed as one of the earliest BIGAMIST in the Colony. Another was a barrister in SYDNEY, who was also trying to help NED KELLY 'OFF THE HOOK!!!' (positive type).
IN the main the ancestors seemed to be 'men of the sea' with no need to explain about the VIKINGS!!! .
The WOMEN - WELL - they were not fast enough to get on with WOMENS LIB!!! but somehow survived - as we did the Nimity WINTERS....
