NANDAWAR SHEARING SHED

The model of the shearing shed which formerly stood at ‘Nandawar’ in the Kybeyan Valley near Nimmitabel

William and Pops Herbert bought ‘Nandawar’ in 1937 to add to their property ‘Eucumbene’in Adaminaby. They built this shearing shed during the war. The skating rink at Nimmitabel was bought in December 1941 for materials to use in the shearing shed. This building was rebuilt by Harry Scarlett in 1942.

Jack Schrivers worked at ‘Nandawar’ in the 1950-60s and then made his career in the building trade. This model of the ‘Nandawar Shed’ was built in his retirement.

The late Mike Herbert of ‘Nandawar’ built a new shearing shed in 1963, near the house which was built in 1959. He pulled the original shearing shed down and built a shelter shed in its place.

The model of the ‘Nandawar’ Shearing shed is usually housed at the Shearer Hall of Fame at Hay, but is presently on loan to the Nimmitabel community and was displayed at the Back to Nimitybelle Historical Display in February 2003.
