Margaret Thompson nee Kearns |
JAMES THOMPSON came to Manaro periodically between 1838 and 1841, for the purpose of droving cattle to Sydney. In the last named year he took charge of Middlingbank Run. Ultimately the district got hold of him. He settled at Jindabyne and acquired Cobbin Station, which his family held for many years. He married Miss Kearns, a niece of Mrs. James Kirwan, whose husband kept an inn at Cooma in the early thirties. At the time Mrs. Thompson (then unmarried), came to Manaro. the nearest females to her Aunt were Mrs. Driscoll at Umaralla, then called Little River, and Mrs. Clifford, of Nudrum Nadran, or Rose Valley. Mrs. James Thompson, who lived to a great age, was generally known as "Grannie" Thompson.
