Weather NIMMITABEL WEATHER
Marjory
Kobold
2003
“It’s as cold as hell in Nimmitabel,” That was Banjo’s line. But in my view, It’s not all true, “Warm hearts” is more in line.
Mates. Neighbours. Cobbers. Pals. The warmth of friendship’s strong. Nimmitabel’s face Is a tiny, cold place, But plenty of heroes belong.
Our Volunteers won the National Bank prize, Took the medal and ten thousand dollars. Five thousand people had come “Back to Nimmity Belle” And confounded all the scholars.
Unsung heroes like Pinky Stove Make a difference you wouldn’t believe It’s amazing how much, Without any fuss, This quiet, gentle hero can achieve.
He fixes and cleans wherever the need. Smooth running, tidy place is his pride. Working to the last On community tasks, Loyal and humble beside.
Rae Stove herself is a legend as well. She’s another who works till she drops. Rae graciously gives Of her effort and time. Stove kindness to all never stops.
Then there’s JAG. He’s one out of the bag, Going from sun rise to night fall. He reckons his knees Would bloody well freeze If he ever stopped working at all.
So JAG’s out with the snags, delighting the wags, With barbies, gossip and cheer, Building Nimmity panache And Lions funding stash With his smile, his yarns and a beer.
Ian Blyton juggles all - the farm, Show and Hall, Wool, Ram Sales, church and history if you please. Rae works alongside. We warmly take pride In our unsung heroes like these.
Marg Weston’s another, a top wife and mother Whose giving continues without glory. Mend fence? Fix Nim News? Or cook Lions’ stews? In between, she’ll write a poem or story!
I won’t mention feuds or the ten-year bad moods No fuel, neighbour’s niggles and chi-ack, For disagreeing with passion Is constantly fashion Among some on the Nimmity track.
Though snowy winds are cold, here’s my statement bold:
“Nimmitabel
hearts
are
the
warmest
by
far.” Roses, Tozers, Buckleys, Jardines - Strong families make us what we are.
So Banjo may be right, the thermometer’s a fright,
Coldest
in
Australia,
but
it’s
strange: We love the job we’ve got, Keeping Nimmitabel proudly “Top of the Range.” |
