WILLIAM3 MORTLOCK (THOMAS2, WILLIAM1) was born 17 August 1861 in Billilingra, Bredbo, reg. Cooma, NSW, and died 19 April 1935 in Delve St., Peakhurst, reg. Hurstville, NSW.  He married MARY BOWERMAN 29 December 1886 in 'The Valley', Bredbo, NSW, daughter of RICHARD BOWERMAN and ESTHER SMITH.  She was born 2 May 1865 in [Coolringdong? Colington] reg. Cooma, NSW, and died 11 October 1947 in Gloucester St, Rockdale, NSW.

 

B/C -  6902/1861 - William Mortlock parents Thomas and Catherine, Cooma, NSW. 

M/C - 6017/1886 - William MORRLOCK married Mary Bowerman in 'The Valley', Bredbo, NSW.

D/C - 6992/1935 - William Mortlock parents Thomas and Catherine, Delve St., Peakhurst reg. Hurstville, NSW.

B/C - 7991/1865 - Mary Bowerman parents Richard and Esther S, reg. Cooma, NSW.

 

Other records state Mary was born at Bridlecreek, as well as Coolringdon in the District of Cooma, NSW.

 

The M/C of William and Mary have a definite spelling mistake of Morrlock for Mortlock. 

 

Mary stated in 1890 on the Birth Certificate of her daughter Mabel Esther that she herself was born at Bridlecreek, in the Cooma District, NSW, she also stated her address at the time was Green Valley, Bredbo, the date of her marriage on that certificate was 29th December 1885, this is not 1886 as stated by the BDM Index.

 

Notes on William Mortlock and Mary nee Bowerman are from Journey Beyond the Seas written by Max Kretchmer 1980; William Mortlock third son of Thomas and Catherine Mortlock met Mary Bowerman and despite some Bowerman family opposition that Mary was marrying below her station, they married on the 29th December 1886. They lived at Bredbo, Lake Bathurst, Michelago, The Rock, Cooma, Hay, and Peakhurst.

 

William and Mary had 13 children of which 8 survived, William Henry b. 1.10.1886, Amelia Maude b. 20.9.1889. Mabel Ester b. 8.9.1890, all at Brebo, William Henry b.8.9.1895 at Goulburn, Stella Mary b. 16. 6.1895 at Bredbo, Albert John b. 22. 8.1901 at the Rock near Wagga Wagga. Amelia Maude Mortlock, first daughter of William and Mary married Charles Lionel Paice, storekeeper of Reefton, at the Rock on the 8.9.1909, the Rev. Joseph Nathaniel Ward married them in the Anglican Church and the witnesses to the marriage were father William Mortlock and Thomas Drinkwater.

 

William Mortlock passed away aged 73 years at 30 Delve St. Peakhurst, Sydney on the 19.4.1935, buried Woronora Cemetery, Sydney on 21.4.1935. Albert John Mortlock his third son died on 2.7.1935. Mary widow of William Mortlock passed away on 11.10.1947 at the home of her daughter Amelia Paice of 3 Gloucester St. Rockdale. 

 

William Mortlock was born at Billilingra, NSW, he moved to The Rock, retired in Mortdale, Sydney. During his working years he worked as a fettler on the railways, he passed away at Peakhurst and is buried in Woronora cemetery, NSW.

Family History of Daniel – He went to live WA ?????As stories go Daniel had an argument with his father, Daniel saw red, he went shopping to purchase a new suit, he charged it to his father and left town. The family looked for him for a long time ??????? Did they meet up again??????
