Joseph born in 1850 was the fifth son of David and the first to be born in the Colony. He was ten years of age when his family moved to the Monaro to take up the positions of shepherds for William Bradley.

Joseph married Mary Ann Holmes in 1874 and had three daughters and two sons.. One son, William, married Annie Campbell and one of their daughters married Jim Lloyd of Cooma.

Joseph inherited one sixth of his father's sheep plus a bullock and dray. He resided mainly in the Bega district.
